It all began on 23rd September, 1987. It was on this day that the first stone of the future hotel was laid, and in November 1989, the hotel was formally opened, offering its future clientele 305 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a bar, and several conference rooms. The fitness center and swimming pool were already in place, equipped and ready for the first guests seeking relaxation and serenity.
Given the hotel’s strategic situation next to the Palexpo Exhibition and Congress center, it was not long before its occupation rate increased and the number of conference rooms was insufficient to meet the numerous demands of both the local and international clientele.
And so it was that in the light of the buoyant local economy, the continuing development of the airport and the growth of the Palexpo site, it became obvious that the hotel needed to expand, and above all to add more and even bigger conference rooms to cope with the demand for the organisation of large-scale gatherings. .
The builders began these additions to the hotel in May 2002, and by the end of September 2003 the work was finished and the Crowne Plaza Geneva became the largest in Switzerland, boasting 496 rooms and suites, 4000m2 of given over to 24 conference rooms, 2 restaurants, a bar, a Fitness Center and a Spa.
The hotel became a key player in the local economy as it was in a position to offer a unique working environment accompanied by the latest fitness and spa facilities for on-the spot pleasure and relaxation.
